Do They Know It’s Christmas? isn’t a terribly good song. The people who wrote it would doubtless be the first to admit that, and in fairness, that isn’t the point: Do They Know Its Christmas? has never been about luring in the public with its nonpareil melodic beauty and the brilliant incisiveness of its lyrics. Besides, ropey tune or not, at least the various versions offer a neat summary of then-prevalent pop trends.g
