The Wembley gig began with ‘Enterlude’, with frontman Brandon Flowers solo at the piano, then - as at the Isle Of Wight festival last weekend where they opened with ‘Mr Brightside’ - the band launched into one of their major hits, this time ‘When You Were Young’. It kicked off a celebratory set full of fireworks and glitter cannons that included covers of Joy Division’s ‘Shadowplay’ and ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’, made famous by Girls Aloud and Tiffany but originally by Ritchie Cordell – "tonight we’re stealing it back," Brandon said. The moving highlight of the set was a new track called ‘Wembley Song’, delivered by Brandon with a touching smile, which traced The Killers’ career "from Dave’s apartment to Wembley", comically noting that early singles left us confused to find that the band were from Vegas “when you were sure it must be Sheffield or Camden”.(NME) The song also listed bands that had played at Wembley previously, including Green Day, with Brandon admitting, "I said some shit, but that was the old me".
